Elizabeth A. D’Angelo (Betty)
On November 27, 2022 Elizabeth A. D’Angelo died in Bloomingdale, New Jersey of natural causes at the age of 93.
Betty, as she was known by her friends and family, is survived by her husband, John G. D’Angelo (J.M.C. Retired) of Kinnelon, New Jersey; children, John C. (Chris) D’Angelo, his spouse Starlyn and their child Celeste of Valatie, New York; Darren C. D’Angelo and his spouse Joy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Dana M. D’Angelo, his spouse Susan L. Tuzzeo, and their three children, John J. D’Angelo, Benjamin C. D’Angelo and Cara Mia D’Angelo of Kinnelon, New Jersey. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles & Ida Bonavita and her granddaughter, Selena D’Angelo.
Betty was born on May 31, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Pompton Lakes. Betty was a resident of Kinnelon, NJ since 1961. She graduated Saint Benedictine’s High School in Paterson, New Jersey, received an undergraduate college degree from the College of New Rochelle and a masters degree in art education from Columbia University. In 1953 she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and gained the rank of Second Lieutenant during her military service. She taught kindergarten in Riverdale/Kinnelon New Jersey. Betty married her husband John (Jack) 1958 and welcomed three sons soon thereafter.
Betty was an independent spirit, who stayed active in the community and remained true to herself with her love of art and nature. She was an active member of the Friends of the Kinnelon Public Library, bridge club, Kinnelon Investment Club and the Italian American Cultural Society. In addition to being a loving wife & partner to Jack and a devoted mother, Betty was an artist and her love of art persisted through her entire life. She painted continuously through her years producing still lifes, nature scenes and portraits well into her 80’s. Betty’s love of nature and the Adirondack Mountains was equally lasting. A devoted friend, she was to be seen every Tuesday night out with her friends and every Friday evening at the Smoke Rise Inn. Never one to acknowledge the aging process, she would routinely deny and object to the word “old”. Her independent and artistic spirit will be missed by all that knew her.
