Helen E Stalter

Helen E. Stalter (nee) Fredericks – Bloomingdale, Georgetown, Delaware and most recent Ringwood.

Helen was born 1938, to parents Harry C. and Isabell (nee Blowers) Fredericks of Marion Town Road, Bloomingdale, also known as Macopin Road; where she resided until her marriage to William S. Stalter, Jr., also of Bloomingdale.

Helen was one of five children – brothers, Robert (deceased), Charles (deceased), Ronald (deceased) and Raymond. She attended Bloomingdale Public School and graduated from Butler High School.

William and Helen raised four children in their Bloomingdale home, located at the beginning of Morse Lakes Road: Elaine Guzman Meade and son-in-law Michael Meade of Mt. Holly, NJ., Susan Weaver Scheel (deceased) son-in-law Kenneth Scheel (deceased) of Freedon, NJ., William S. III and daughter in-law Christine of Franklin, NJ., and Patricia Hoffmann and son-in-law Charles of Ringwood, NJ.

She was also the proud grandmother to Vena-Marie Guzman, Moriah Guzman Rhodes, Robert Weaver, Lauren Weaver and Charles Hoffmann. Great grandmother to Christopher Rhodes, Alexis Rhodes, Isabella Weaver, and Maddox Weaver.

Helen was a bookkeeper for the Wooster family, owners of the first woven label company and later on, the bookkeeper for the owner of T-Bowl Shopping Center. She was also the number one home gathering demonstrator for Lloyds of London fine linens for many years.

In 1964, William decided they were going into the garbage removal and septic pumping business. Becoming owners of Lakeland Trucking Company, later known as Lakeland Septic Co., Inc. It was at this point; Helen had started to learn many facets of this unique industry. Upon William’s death in 1980, she continued on, and learned the installation and excavation operations of the business. For the next 26 years she was known to go out and return with a piece of equipment; tanker truck, Komatsu excavator, backhoe, and a dump truck or two. Helen was a business woman with a dedication that was seen by many in an industry that was mainly perceived to be a male profession. Because of this, she was seen by many as a strong, dedicated business professional who was well respected amongst her peers.

After 42 years in business, Helen had retired in 2006. Her daughter Patricia, had followed in her footsteps by taking on the business. Lakeland Septic Co., Inc is still operating today in Ringwood, and which will soon be approaching 60 years.

When Helen wasn’t behind her desk, she was a steadfast friend and neighbor. Her intuitive ability to sense when someone was in dire straits was impeccable. She just knew when to help those in need. Helen was known for her Easter baskets, baked goods that ended up secretly on doorsteps, hot meals traveled all over town, and a warm bed was always made available to anyone in need of it. She gave with her heart, looking for nothing in return.

Helen was an avid baker. She enjoyed sharing her talent of cake decorating at birthday parties. Everyone went home with a shirt box full of beautifully decorated Wilton cake cupcakes. No birthday party, school bake sale, family gathering or function was boring, ever.

She also enjoyed reading, cards, antiques, traveling, a well-kept home and watching the stock market. She enjoyed many years spending time with her close girlfriends and her woman’s club.

A few years after William’s death, Helen was lucky to meet James Bidlack, also known as Big Jim (deceased), in which they shared many years together. They enjoyed traveling either by way of motorcycle or Corvette, anywhere their wheels would take them. Helen became a member of the Polar Bear Club, where once again, her baking and cooking skills outshined. They spent winters at their home in Arizona.

In the later years of her life, Helen had moved to Georgetown Delaware, where she lived for 10 years. She enjoyed meeting new friends, weekly card games and socializing. Helen had returned to New Jersey with her daughter Patricia when her health changed.

Helen was a kind, calm person, who never had an ill word spoken. She was a hardworking and strong role model to all. She proudly took care of her family and those in need. She lived her life with gratitude and peace.

She will be missed by many, but certainly left her mark.

Visitation will be Monday, October 9, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 11:00am also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler, NJ.
