Margherita (Modica) Davis of Saddle River, formerly Wanaque, NJ and Hudson, NY, passed away peacefully in her home on February 19 2017 following a 2 year battle with cancer. Born in 1943, she was the daughter of George Modica and Adriana Monello who predeceased her. She grew up in North Haledon and was a member of the first graduating class of Manchester Regional High School in Haledon. She received a Certificate in Nursing from Mount Sinai University followed by a Bachelors degree from Jersey City State College. She later received a Masters degree at Columbia University and served as the Director of Education for the Regional Perinatal Network at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She eventually retired to Hudson, NY with her late husband, George Gray Davis, who predeceased her by just 2 months. One of her passions was English country dancing and she was a member of the New York Country Dance Society for many years. More recently, she returned to NJ and resided at Wanaque Reserve. She was active in many of the communitys clubs and loved to socialize. She was also very involved in parish life at St. Davids Episcopal Church in Kinnelon, where she served on the choir. Margherita will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, and she will be remembered most for her enthusiastic embrace of life and for her many friendships, both old and new. She is survived by a brother, Dr. Conrad Modica and his wife, Patricia Modica of Wanaque. She is also survived by nieces/nephews George Modica, Carolyn Bunda, Michael Modica, Patti Modica and Beth Coyle, along with 5 grand nephews, a grand niece, and stepson Blair Davis. Margheritas life will be celebrated during a memorial service at St. Davids Episcopal Church, Kinnelon, NJ on Saturday, March 18th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Episcopal Relief and Development (episcopalrelief.org).
