In remembrance of Alan J. Spencer, a truly loving husband of 54 years and equally loving father. Alan, a welcome sight to all who knew him, could be found at every birthday, anniversary, and every other significant event in all our lives. “Big Al,” as he was known among family, would regale listeners with wild stories of growing up in NYC and take great delight in entertaining those around him. He loved to make people laugh with his hours of stories.
Alan was never reluctant when asked to give advice from his lifetime of experience, and he was asked a lot, especially by his children. We learned so much from him that really put us on a path to be better men and sons. Also a big fan of music, Alan liked to listen to country and rock and roll and pridefully impressed that love of music onto his children. Dad also passed on his deep love of sports and fandom of the Giants, Mets and Rangers to his sons. These sports, as bonding experiences, led to endless conversations and friendly debates that we, his family would not trade for the world. Sometimes the simplest interactions with our loved ones are the most memorable and touching. Lastly Dad had a certified love of animals and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with all his dogs over the years.
We lost a father, a husband, but also our best friend. Alan will be remembered always.
