Arthur Vanden Houten "Art", age 82, of Pompton Lakes, NJ, died Thursday, November 26, 2009. Mr. Vanden Houten was born in Paterson, NJ, the son of the late Joseph and the late Johanna (Ripmeester) Vanden Houten. A graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ, Art retired as a brakeman with the Susquehanna Railroad in 1984. A resident of Pompton Lakes for fifty-four years, he was an enthusiastic member of St. Mary's Seniors of Pompton Lakes, NJ and served as the Sergeant-at-Arms for many years. He is survived by his beloved children, Carol Fouts, Nancy Vanden Houten, and Arthur S. Vanden Houten, his loving companion of 11 years Madeline Morse, four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Schaller, Michael Schaller, Christopher Martin, Julia Vanden Houten and one adored great-grandchild, Eva Grace Schaller. Also surviving are his brother Joseph Vanden Houten, his sisters Jeanette Denovchik and Fredericka Foti, and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife of 46 years, Gloria E. Vanden Houten. Viewing hours will be Sunday, November 29, 2009, from 2:00-7:00 PM at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. The funeral mass will be held Monday 9:00 am at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ. Burial to follow at Mt. Rest, Butler, NJ. The family has requested donations to the American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Foundation www.rheumatology.org.
