February 16, 1934 — January 15, 2025

Butler, NJ

Arthur S. Kender Jr., affectionately known as Art, left this world on January 15, 2025, suddenly at home, at the age of 90. Born on February 16, 1934, in Passaic, NJ, he was a devoted member of the Butler community and a man whose life was marked by kindness, laughter, and a steadfast commitment to those around him.

Art enjoyed a varied career that included serving as a Mail Carrier and Crossing Guard in Butler, as well as a fulfilling tenure as a retired Sergeant in the Butler Police Department. His and community members speak fondly of him, recalling a man who saw the good in people and was renowned for giving others a second chance Art's easygoing nature and sense of humor made him not just professional but also a beloved figure among friends and neighbors alike. Many have stories to tell that reflect the profound impact he had on their lives.

In addition to his dedicated service to the community, Art was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. His love for the outdoors was evident; he found great joy in hunting, fishing, and simply being in nature. As an active participant in various local organizations, Art was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a PBA Member, and a member of several gun clubs, including the Warwick Valley Gun Club, the NRA, and the Rock Tavern Rod and Gun Club. His affiliations with the Knights of Columbus and his role as an Exempt Fireman of the Butler Fire Department further highlight his deep-rooted commitment to service.

Art is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Christine Smith, and her husband, John; his son, Arthur S. Kender III; his step daughter Beth Ann Wilkerson; Her 3 children his grandchildren Elizabeth Carman, Mark Carman Jr & Jessica Schenk; His five great grandchildren Nevaeh Schenk, Mark lll, Jeremiah, Ethan, Benjamin Carman, who treasured his presence. He joins in eternal rest his parents, Arthur S. Kender Sr. and Justine Kender; his brother, Bob Kender; his daughter-in-law, Regina (McDermott), and his Companion Phyllis and his step son Todd Wilkerson all of whom will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

The legacy of kindness and compassion Art nurtured through his life will continue to be felt in the community that he cared for so dearly. His visitation will be held on January 23, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc. in Butler, NJ.
