Azadeh Lassman

Azadeh Lassman, a devoted educator, loving mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on November 25, 1954, in Mashhad, Iran, Azadeh moved to the United States in 1978 to pursue her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Syracuse University.

For over 20 years, Azadeh worked as a passionate educator at PS 188 in Brooklyn, New York, where she touched the lives of countless children. She made it her mission to instill not just knowledge, but values of kindness, generosity, and respect. She believed deeply in the power of education to change lives and took great joy in seeing her students thrive.

In retirement, Azadeh continued to share her love for learning and helping others. She volunteered her time teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Wayne Public Library, offering support to newcomers and making them feel welcomed and valued. Azadeh’s desire to give back also extended to her passion for nature—she dedicated her time to the local arboretum, where she found peace in nurturing the earth and beautifying the world around her. 

Azadeh never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear, always guided by a strong moral compass and a genuine desire to make the world a better place. Her life was a testament to the power of decency and compassion. Those who knew her will remember her for her boundless empathy, her wisdom, and selflessness. Her heart was open to everyone, and she made it her life's mission to help others, often putting their needs before her own. She taught us all the importance of being good to one another and finding joy in the simple act of caring for others.

Azadeh is survived by her beloved daughter, Cheryl.
