Betty Lou Ackerman

February 6, 1943 — August 21, 2024

Betty died at her home, Wednesday August 21, 2024, at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her husband, of 57 years, Robert. Betty is survived by her daughter, Laura, son RJ, daughter-in-law Lisa, four grandchildren – Matthew, Daniel, Dennis, and Christopher, her sister Beverly, as well as her nieces, and nephews.

Over the years, Betty held a variety of jobs, working in the cafeteria at Kinnelon High School, being one of her favorites. She was recognized for her many years of dedication and hard work, with the Boy Scouts, being presented with the Silver Beaver Award. Betty was known for her behind the scenes work, holding many positions in the Cub Pack and Boy Scout Troop in town. Not only did she organize major scouting events at the local and council levels, she also mentored and encouraged boys to achieve their goals, often promising them a home-made apple pie when they reached them.

Betty was kind to everyone, and always one of the first to help people in need, by organizing clothing drives, giving people food, befriending people at the senior apartments, and so on. She was usually seen smiling, and you could not help laughing with her when she laughed.

Betty enjoyed country music, going to concerts and shows, and crafting, but most of her activities revolved around family activities. She was an active member of the Choir and Bands, at Butler High School playing flute and piccolo, all four years. She and Bob then spent thirteen years following the band bus, as their children and two of their grandchildren continued the musical tradition. Betty and Bob also attended numerous academic events, concerts, and sporting events, including soccer, bowling, fencing, and most recently dirt track racing, to watch their children and then their grandchildren participate.

Betty was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile and laughter would light up the whole room. She cared so deeply for the people around her. Betty was kind and passionate. She made an impact on many lives. Betty will be forever missed. One day we will be together again!
