Mahon, Brother John P., O.F.M., Guardian (Local Religious Superior) of St. Anthony Friary, Butler, NJ on March 6, 2011 in his 62nd year. Brother John was a professed Franciscan Friar for 38 years. Brother John entered the Franciscan Order in 1971. His early education ministry included teaching and administration in Catholic elementary and high schools in New York City, and in Connecticut. He then pursued Business Administration and Business Teacher Education degrees in preparation for a ten-year faculty post in the Marketing and Management Department of Siena College, Loudonville, NY. Other duties at Siena included Guardian of the Franciscan Community, Director of Student Activities, Assistant to the President, and Program/Conference Coordinator. Brother John received a Master of Arts Degree in Church Leadership and Management from Boston College in 1989. His memberships included the Catholic Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, and International Society of Business Educators. Upon relocating to St. Anthony Shrine, Boston, Ma in 1999, Brother John became Director of Finance and Director of Hospitality. He was named Guardian of St. Anthony Friary, Butler, serving for 2006 to the present time. In 2007,he led a notable interior reconstruction of the upper three floors of living quarters in the historic Butler Friary at 63 Bartholdi Ave. His service to the Holy Name Province of Franciscan Friars on the eastern seaboard included the coordination of Provincial Chapters-triennial meetings-from the 1970s through January, 2011. Brother John is survived by his Franciscan confreres and by his mother, Mrs. May K. "Mae" Mahon and an aunt, Mrs. Dorothy Hipp, both of Manhattan, NY, and by a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and MaryAnn Mahon of Deer Park, NY, plus several nieces and nephews. Brother John was predeceased by his father, John Patrick Mahon and by an aunt, Mrs. Sally K. Stewart, both of Manhattan, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's RC Church, Butler, NJ. Visiting, 4:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2011 also at St. Anthony's Church. Wake Service will be at 7:30 PM Friday. Burial will be Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler, NJ.
