Charles E. Davenport, "Charlie" age 86, of Butler, formerly of New Foundland, on Wednesday, January 9, 2008. Mr. Davenport was born in New Foundland, NJ, the son of the late Charles W. and the late Lillian (Schulster) Davenport. He married Carrie Van Zile June 6, 1942 in the New Foundland Methodist Church. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. During the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, Charlie served in a field Artillery Battalion with the 5th and 7th Armies under General Mark Clark. During the Campaign he received six Battle Stars. He retired from E.I. Dupont Pompton Lakes, NJ, as a Machinist in 1983. Mr. Davenport was an Usher at Nazarene Church, a member of the VFW in Butler, he was the artist for E.I. Dupont safety program, and he participated in local and state art competitions. He is survived by his devoted wife Carrie (Van Zile) Davenport for 65 years, one son Dewayne and wife Susan, two daughters, Darlene Dilts and husband Robert, and Dora Davenport. Cherished grandfather of Sharon Fahs and husband Patrick, Robert Dilts, Amy Mc Clain and husband Ray, and Michael Davenport. Adored great grandfather of Evan and Owen Fahs, and Jack McClain. Viewing hours will be Sunday, January 13th, 2008 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, NJ. A funeral will be held Monday 11:00am at the Butler Community Nazarene Church, Butler. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler.In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Butler Community Nazarene Church, 188 Kiel Ave., Butler, NJ, 07405, in his memory.
