Dennis Passenti

Dennis , 59, of Butler, formerly of Haskell, NJ, peacefully on Wednesday, January 9th, 2008. Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Dominick and the late Genevieve (Mendillo) Passenti. Dennis entered the United States Navy in 1965, he served in Vietnam 1966-1967 as part of River Patrol Boat, was discharged in 1969, and was then appointed a Police Officer in Butler, NJ, in 1970. He held every office in the Police Department including the only Canine Police Officer. He was appointed Police Chief in 1996 retiring in February 2007. He was a member of Morris County Chiefs of Police Association, International Chief's of Police Association, Charter member and Organizer of Butler Police Association, PBA Local #198, FOP Loge #18, NJ Honor Legion of Police, Passaic County Detective Association, Morris County Detective Association, Italian American Police Association, North Jersey Police Radio Association, VFW Post #8096, Disabled American Veterans, UNICO, Wopeena Archery Club in Clifton, and lead guitar player of Forever Gold Oldies Band. He is survived by Devoted wife Lynn (nee Reno), Beloved father of Andrea, Loving brother of Marrianne Yodice and husband Frank, Donna Schmiedhauser and husband Richard, brother-in-law of Wanaque Chief of Police Jack Reno and wife Debbie, and Charlie Reno and wife Roe, also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. A Visitation will take place Friday, January 11, 2008, from 5-9 PM, at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, NJ. Funeral will be held on Saturday 10 AM at St. Anthony's R.C.
