Dinah Smith, a cherished soul and beloved matriarch, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on May 12, 1958, in Pompton Plains, NJ, Dinah was a vibrant, friendly spirit who left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dinah dedicated 34 years of her life to serving as a customer service representative at Ungerer and Company in Lincoln Park, NJ. Her commitment to her work exemplified her dedication and passion for helping others. She carried this same kindness into her personal life, where she was known as an exceptional entertainer. Those who spent time in her company will fondly remember the joyful pool parties she hosted, which were filled with laughter, warmth, and love.
A proud graduate of Butler High School, Dinah was also deeply connected to her family. Her friendly demeanor and big heart reflected the values instilled in her, taking after her beloved mother, Gail Mathews, who predeceased her. Dinah is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Smith, who cherished their life together. Her memory will also live on through her siblings: Sharon Hontz (John), Jackie McGrady, JoAnne Gould (Roger), Edward Matthews (Mary), and Jeanette Mathews (Victor Percastegui). Dinah's father, Edward Raymond Mathews, survives her, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Dinah found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether walking, bike riding, or crabbing down at the Jersey Shore—an activity at which she was unusually skilled. Her zest for life, paired with a compassionate nature, made every moment spent with her a treasured memory.
