Donald A. Hubner passed peacefully into God's arms on July 19, 2016 at the age of 89, or as he liked to say "his 90th year of life". Don grew up in Bloomingdale, N.J. and then spent most of his adult life as a resident of Pompton Plains, N.J. where he raised his family. Don was predeceased by his mother and father, Elizabeth Shippee Hubner and Cornelius A. Hubner, his bother Cornelius E. "Bud" Hubner and his sister Cynthia Ix. After graduating from Butler High School Don attended Fordham University until he joined the United States Army. He was a proud veteran of World War II where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with the initial occupational forces in Japan. After the war, Don attended Syracuse University and thereafter married his one true love, Carol Dow of Butler, N.J., who predeceased him. They were blessed with three sons, Patrick, Michael and Anthony (Tony) who were married, as Don was fond of saying, to his "three favorite daughters-in-law", Betsy, Gloria and Carol. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Oh, how he loved them all!In addition to great family times which were abundant, Don thoroughly enjoyed his community of close friends. In his later years, Don particularly cherished the fellowship of his friends and enjoyed simple outings like meals and conversation at his favorite diner. Don was a blessing to all who knew him well. He knew how to love and be loved. As we are taught in Proverbs 17:17, "A true friend loves at all times". Don's business career was firmly rooted in the family felt business. He was proud to work with his father and brother to build the business together. He served as President of Central Shippee/Allied Felt of Bloomingdale, N.J. and was a shareholder with his brother and others in American Felt and Filter Co. of New Windsor, N.Y. Don's community/civic activities were varied. He was particularly proud of his long-standing service on the corporate and foundation boards of Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J. He believed in the early vision of the hospital and helped steward Chilton's extraordinary growth over the many years from its inception to the present.Don was a loving, loyal and dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The little ones in the family all adored him and when with him, they just knew they were in the presence of someone vey special.Viewing hours will be Monday, July 25th, from 4 to 8pm at Our Lady Of Magnificat RC Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ.
