It is with the greatest of sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Frederick Schmidt of Kinnelon NJ on February 17, 2023 at the age of 86. Donald passed peacefully at home overlooking the lake he loved to sail on, and watching his cardinals at his feeders.
Born January 6,1937 in Bristol PA to Margaret Schmidt, (Galvin) and Father, Frederick Schmidt of Cedar Grove. Donald was the owner of Ledgewood Kawasaki and retired in 2001 at age 65.
Donald graduated from Passaic Valley HighSchool and attended New Hampton Prep School and Norwich University, VT. Donald was a hard working man, involved in the automotive industry prior to opening up his own power sports dealership in 1977. He lived life to the fullest enjoying fast cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and boats. Driving down a country road listening to John Denver or spending time at his shore house was a favorite pastime after he retired. Donald lived a full life. He loved to laugh and tell stories with his family and friends. His universe was his beautiful Lydia.
Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Lydia Schmidt (Merola), and was the proud Father of his three children Todd Schmidt, Heather (Greg) Andrews, and Noelle Schmidt (John Hermann). Pop will be missed greatly by his cherished grandchildren, Chelsea, Kyle, Cara, Rachael and Michael as well as the many nieces, nephews and great friends that enriched his life.
On Friday, March 3, 2023 the family invites you to join us in a Celebration of Donald's Life at Our Lady of Magnificat Church, 2 Miller Rd, Kinnelon NJ at 11:30am with a gathering in Monsignor Ryan's Room, and Mass at 12:30pm.
As the services will be held at the Church, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider donating to the Kinnelon Volunteer Animal Shelter in Donald memory by sending your tax deductible gift with this form.
