Dorothy Joan Haber

DOROTHY JOAN HABERPassed away Thursday morning August 27, 2015 in her home in Alpine, CA after a long illness and long happy life. "Dottie" to friends and family, she was 95 years young and is forever "GG" to her three great grandchildren, Jaya, Owen, and Madelyn - all of San Diego. An avid baker and ceramics artisan, Dottie was born to William and Clara (Seelinger) Schaefer on May 28, 1920, in West Orange, NJ. After graduating from Orange HS she worked briefly as administrative assistant. In 1942 she married Charles H Haber of Newark, NJ and then honeymooned briefly in San Francisco with her new husband before settling into life as a homemaker and mother to 3 children in Bellville, NJ. In 1959 Dottie and Charlie moved the family to Butler, NJ and enjoyed many wonderful years there. Her children are - Charles H "Skip" Haber Jr (deceased KIA Vietnam 1967), William J. "Bill" Haber of Milltown NJ, and Susan C. Shoemaker of Alpine, Ca.Dorothy is survived by her son Bill, daughter Susan and her husband Owen, along with 3 grand-daughters - Jennifer Pratt and her husband Todd; Kimberly Callahan, and her husband Joel; and her youngest grandchild, Tara Anne Shoemaker and finally by her aforementioned three great grandchildren, all of San Diego. Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews, from her New Jersey years. Dottie was the last of the Schaefer family children from Bill and Clara of Orange, those previously deceased siblings being William, Herbert, Clara, Hazel, Eleanor, George and Harold Schaefer.Christmas cookies, pies and her special Cream Puffs live on in family recipes for all to enjoy! She was very loved and will be missed by many adoring family and friends. The viewing will be on Tuesday, September 1st at Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass will be on Wednesday, September 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 65 Bartholdi Ave, Butler.
