Earl William Dean, Jr.

Earl William Dean age 74 passed away on February 17, 2023. A life long resident of Butler, He is the son of the late Doris and F. Earl Dean. Earl is survived by his wife of fifty-four and one half years, Glenda and two daughters, Kimberlie and Andrea Dean, brother, Jay and his wife Kathy and cousin, Richie and his wife Dee, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Earl was retired from the Butler Electric Utility after 34 years, where he was in charge of the metering-relay and substations departments. He served for a time as president of the Butler Blue Collar Workers Association, which represented town employees in cases before the Public Employees Relation Commission. Earl served as the towns Emergency Management Coordinator and Safety Director as well as a term on the Planning/Land Use Board. He also was an Inspector/Instructor for the State Division of Fire Safety and conducted Fire Code Inspection for the towns of Butler and Riverdale.

Earl was a 45 year member in the Butler Fire Department where he served as Chief of the Bartholdi Hose Fire Co., Kinney Hose Fire Co. and also Chief of the Butler Fire Department. Earl was President of the Butler Exempt Fireman's Association and Treasure of the Butler Firemen's Relief Association and Corresponding Secretary for the North Jersey Volunteer Fireman's Association, a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen's Relief Association and New Jersey State Exempt Fireman's Association. A member of the New Jersey State Fire Chiefs Association, New Jersey State Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Morris County Fire Chiefs. He was a 3rd Degree life member of St. Anthony's Knights of Columbus where he served as a Community Activities Director, and was an Associate Member of the Fraternal Order of Police, North Jersey Lodge 18. Earl was a lifelong New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboy fan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 4:00 PM -8:00 PM at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. A mass will be offered on Friday, February 25, 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's RC Church, 65 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
