Father Vincent B. Grogan, O.F.M.

Father Vincent B.Grogan, O.F.M. of St. Anthony Friary, Butler, NJ, died on July 29, 2016, in his 79th year. Father Vincent was a professed Franciscan Friar for 59 years, and a Catholic Priest for 53 years. A native of Netcong, NJ, he was graduated in 1954 from Bayley-Ellard High School, Madison, NJ. He entered the Franciscan Order in 1956, and was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1963. Father Vincent was first assigned to St. Leo's Church, East Paterson (now Elmwood Park), NJ. From 1964 through 1971 he served as Secretary to the Provincial of Holy Name Franciscan Province, New York City, NY. Father Vincent obtained a doctorate in Canon (Church) Law from The Catholic University of America in 1974, then taught Canon Law at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, NY, 1974-1987. Father Vincent oversaw the transfer of the Holy Name Province Archives from New York to new quarters at St. Anthony Friary, Butler, NJ, a highlight of his thirty years of archival directorship. For a 17-year period in New York City, Father Vincent worked as a judge in the Archdioceses of New York Metropolitan Tribunal. Later he was a member of the marriage tribunal of the Diocese of Paterson, NJ. He is survived by his Franciscan confreres, and by a sister Mrs. Elizabeth (Richard) Gralinski of Clarks Summit, PA, and nephews Joseph and James Gralinski, and a niece, Barbara Schultz.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00AM, at St. Anthony's R.C.
