Murphy, Father Jude R., O.F.M., of St. Anthony Friary, Butler New Jersey, on September 7, 2012 in his 81st year. Father Jude was a professed Franciscan Friar for 57 years. A native of Woburn, MA, Father Jude entered the Franciscan order in 1954, and was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1961. His longest ministry in New Jersey was parochial vicar at St. Anthony's Church in Butler New Jersey, 1989- 1994, and 2003- 2010. He also served as parochial vicar at St. Mary's church Pompton lakes, 1999 - 2003. Likewise, Father Jude held a similar post at St. Joseph's Church, East Rutherford, 1982 - 1986. He assisted in training of student Franciscan Friars 1987 - 1989 in Brookline, MA, and was assistant director of the novices in Providence, RI, 1996 - 1999. Also, Father Jude was on the staff of the Franciscan downtown shrine churches in Boston, MA, 1961- 1962, and 1986 -1997 as well as Providence, R I, 1994 -1999. Soon after priestly ordination, Father Jude taught in the English and Philosophy departments of St. Bonaventure University, Olean, New York, 1962 - 1966, then taught philosophy at St. Francis College, Rye Beach, NH, 1966 - 1973. Next he taught French, and served as a guidance counselor at Bishop Timon high school, Buffalo New York, 1973- 1981. His associated ministries included a hospital chaplaincy and direct service to the urban poor. He is survived by his Franciscan confreres, and by his sister, Franciscan Sister M. Kathleen Murphy, O.S.F. (nee Mary Josephine), pastorial associate of St. Francis Parish, Long Beach Island New Jersey. Also survived by 29 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews in the greater Boston, MA, area. Father Jude, born John William Murphy, February 12, 1931, was predeceased by his parents, Edward J. and Margaret McEhinney Murphy, and his sisters, Rita Murphy Grant, Sally Murphy McNeil, Loretta Murphy Hogan, Kathleen Murphy Brogna, Theresa Murphy Currier, Patricia Murphy Marashio, and a brother Edward J Murphy. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 11 AM at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, 65 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, NJ. Visiting, 2pm to 5pm, and 7pm to 9pm, on Monday, September 10, 2012 also at St. Anthony's RC church. Wake service will be 7:30 PM, Monday. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery Butler New Jersey. Arrangements by the Morrison funeral home, Butler, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sick, Aged and Retired of The Holy Name Province, C/O Brother Richard P.
