Frances H. Bragger Beloved Sister, Aunt and Great-Aunt, 98 Miss Frances H. Bragger, age 98, of Nutley, New Jersey, passed away in her home on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Funeral services were held privately. There will be memorial service celebrated Sunday, June 12th, 2022 at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home 86 Bartholdi Ave. Butler, NJ at 11:30am. Miss Bragger was known to many as Fran or Aunt Fran, she was a dedicated school teacher and guidance counselor. Fran obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Trenton State Teachers College (TCNJ) in 1945, and earned her Masters degree at Montclair State College (University) in 1958. Thereafter, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study and teach in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England until 1959. She continued her studying at Boston University (in 1966) and Pacific University (in 1969) while she worked as a teacher. Early in her career, Fran mostly taught health and physical education at Englewood Jr. High and three grade schools, as well as Leonia High School. She later worked at Leonia High School and then Glen Rock High School as a Guidance Counselor. During the summer, Fran worked for the American Red Cross as a teacher/life guard and taught swimming at Orange YWCA, Hackensack YWCA, and the IT&T pool in Nutley. Fran was a member of many professional associations, including the National and N.J Education Associations; the American, N.J and Bergen County Associations for Health and Physical Education; the American Red Cross; and various Teachers, Deans, Counselors and Guidance Associations. She also chaired or held official positions in many committees and associations related to her field of education, especially the National Section for Girls and Womens Sports. She was a Girl Scout leader. Despite Frans many achievements, she wore a garment of humility. Fran was also an avid gardener and was passionate about land conservation. She was modest and hard-working, although she readily admitted that she could not cook. Fran loved staying at her summer home in Bloomingdale, New Jersey. For decades, she was on Boards and Committees for the Glen Wild Lake Association, as well as its Historian. She leaves behind many cherished friends and wonderful neighbors both at Glen Wild Lake and in Nutley. Although she was quiet and reserved, Fran cared very deeply for her family, relatives and friends. She will long be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity. She has truly made a difference in the lives of her students because of her dedication to their future successes, and in the lives of her family because of her unassuming yet very evident love. Fran is survived by her three sisters, Kathryn Lewis, Martha McDaniel, and Alayne McGuire. She also took great interest and pride in her more than 20 nieces and nephews and grand/great-grand nieces and nephews. Fran had many cousins from other states, and it gave her great joy to keep in touch with them. Fran even found more relatives in the US by researching and preparing her own family tree (before internet or popular genealogy services were available), a copy of which she gave to many relatives. Fran is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Frances (nee Campbell) Bragger; her brother, Edgar Bragger; and her life-long friend, Helen Kirk, who was like a sister to Fran and all her siblings. A donation to your favorite charity would be an appreciated memorial to Frances Bragger. . There are no gallery images.
