Frank Halat, 79, of Pompton Lakes, NJ peacefully died on April 5, 2011; surrounded by his family and now joins his son Frank in heaven. Frank proudly served in the Korean war. The VFW in Pompton Lakes was a huge part of his life. After 35 years of working for NJ Transit, Frank retired and pursued his dream. He opened Frank's Barber Shop on Main St. in Bloomingdale in 1988. He loved cutting hair and waving to all who passed by. In the last several years people would look for him taking his nap in a chair close to the door. Frank loved it when his family would come for haircuts. "Pay with a hug", he used to tell his grandsons. During football season you could always find Frank sitting at home watching his favorite team, The New York Giants. Then, once summer rolled around it was Shellbay Campground here I come. Frank loved his boat, clamming and just sitting at the picnic table, so he could talk to passer-buyers and watch the kids on their bikes. Frank is survived by his wife Mary, his children Gary and wife Miriam, Susan and husband Bill, Cindy and husband John, Cheryl and Alexandria, 9 grandchildren - Aimee, Amanda, Alicia, Caitlin, Lindsey, Donovan, Kyler, Connor, Azaria and 2 great grandchildren - Chloe and Frankee.
