Gerard Mataro

BLOOMINGDALE - Services will be held for Gerard Mataro, 77, of this community, who died on April 17, 2008.Born in Beth Israel Hospital Clifton, Dr. Mataro lived in Bloomingdale for more than 40 years before moving recently to Wayne. Dr. Gerard Mataro was a dentist who practiced in Oakland for nearly 30 years. Dr. Mataro was also an Air Force Veteran. After retirement Dr. Mataro devoted time to community works, and was instrumental in the construction and renovation of the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter, opened in 1996. Dr. Mataro is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane, his daughters, Lisa Mataro of Montclair, Amy Mataro of Pompano Beach, FL, Laura Errera of Riverdale, Jennifer Mataro of Pompano Beach, FL, and three grandchildren. Services will be held at Morrison Funeral home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler. Viewing will take place Monday, April 21st, 2008, 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday 11 a.m, at St. Anthony's RC Church, Butler, NJ. The final disposition will be held in private. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to either the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter (http:// www.petfinder.com/shelters/NJ28.html ) or http://www.imom.org/ (In Memory of Magic-Helping People Help Pets )-which provides help to people who have pets and need financial assistance.
