Gloria G. Sehulster (1934-2023)

Gloria G. Sehulster, generous and loving mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center under the care of hospice. She was 89 years old.

Gloria was born in Newark, NJ on January 20, 1934 to the late Michael and Lillian (Schmidt) La Morte. She graduated from Arts High School in Newark, NJ in 1952. Throughout her life, Gloria enjoyed a fruitful career in music, entertaining thousands over the years with her beautiful soprano voice. Early in her career, she was a member of the La Morte sisters, and performed live, with her sister, Lillian, in and around Newark, NJ as well as on local radio and TV. Later in life, she performed and starred in local productions of well-known musicals such as Camelot, The Merry Widow, Oklahoma, Show Boat, and others. A woman of deep faith, she founded a Christian Theater ministry in the early 1980’s, producing and directing many Christian musicals that toured local churches in NY, NJ, and PA.

Beyond performing and directing, Gloria treasured time with her family and friends, loved cooking and baking, and enjoyed gardening and doing arts and crafts.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Sehulster. She is survived by her sister, Lillian, her children, Wayne, Donald W, Antoinette, Rachel, Joshua, and Gabrielle; her stepdaughters, Kim and Robin; her 14 grandchildren; and many loving relatives, foster children, and friends.

A memorial service for Gloria and her pre-deceased husband Donald, will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 1 PM at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. The family will receive visitors from 11AM-1PM.
