Harry A. Hopper, age 85, of Bloomingdale, NJ, formerly of Oakland, NJ, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008. Mr. Hopper was born in Oakland, N.J. the son of the late Robert and the late Lettie Ann (Baker) Hopper. He attended elementary school in Oakland, and graduated from Pompton Lakes High School. Harry was a member of Ponds Church, also in Oakland. He was employed by Harry Fitzpatrick in Butler, and E. I. DuPont Company in Pompton Lakes. He was a World War II Air Force Veteran serving as Corporal, stationed in Forth Worth, Texas. Following his term in service he worked for Pompton Lakes Auto Body for ten years, he then opened his own business, Pompton Lakes Wheel Alignment, which he operated for over 31 years, and also worked for Marroon Auto Body before retiring. He was a life member of the Bloomingdale PTA, serving as vice president for three years, Assistant scout Master for Pack 86, member of the Bloomingdale Golden Age Club, and member of the American Legion Post 154, Butler. He is survived by his devoted wife May (nee Draney), beloved sons Steven and Bob, both of Vernon and five cherished grandchildren. Harry was predeceased by two sisters, Irene DeMedici and Esther Tango, and a brother Melvin. Viewing hours will be Wednesday, June 4th, 2008, from 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00pm also at the funeral home. The final disposition will be held in private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of New Jersey, Main Office -Bloomfield, 400 Broadacres Drive, 4th Floor, Bloomfield, New Jersey 07003 or The Intensive Care Unit, C/O Chilton Memorial Hospital, 97 West Parkway, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444, in his memory.
