Henry Ernest WeisHenry was born in Herren-Sulzbach, Rheinpfalz, Germany March 25, 1924.He migrated with his family to the United States at age 4. Henry graduated Pompton Lakes High School, and served in the United States Army during World War II. Trained first as a machinist, he graduated Montclair State Teachers College and married Lois Eleanor Scott of Maplewood in 1950. Henry worked at Wayne Valley High School as a science teacher and served as the department chair for many years. He was faculty advisor to the Wayne Valley Outing Club, a camping and hiking club within the high school. Henry was a founding member of the Calvary Gospel Church on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne; he and Lois later served as the Science Department at Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells. He moved the family to the home he built in Kinnelon in 1964 and lived there until his death at Chilton Hospital on Saturday October 11, 2014. Henry was 90 years old.Always handy with tools and generous with his time, Henry was undaunted by challenges: repairing appliances, remodeling homes, rebuilding cars. From lifting roofs to moving rocks, he solved many problems for many people. Henry loved to travel. Camping, hiking, backpacking; he and Lois participated in elder hostels after retirement. He was an avid windsurfer, often sailing Barnegat Bay on windy summer days. As recently as his late eighties, Henry could be found on Sunday afternoons riding his road bike from Kinnelon to Ringwood for the shear joy of the exercise.He is survived by his wife, Lois, three children Craig (wife Nancy), Loren (husband Jim), and Eric (wife Nancy). He also has three grandchildren, Meredith (husband Santino), Eden (husband Mike), Julia, and Maria, and one great-grandchild, Violet. Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, from 4-8pm at the Morrison Funeral Home 86 Bartholdi Ave. Butler, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Wednesday at 10am also at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler, NJ.In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Ringwood Christian School, 30 Carletondale Road, Ringwood, NJ 07456 in Henry's name, as part of their annual fund drive.
