Hiang Tee "Pat" Murphy

“Pat” Hiang Tee Murphy died suddenly while working in the garden outside her home in Butler, NJ on November 5, 2023.

Pat was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 2, 1944 as the youngest of 5 sisters. She moved in September 1970 to Toronto, Canada where she met and married her husband, Joe Murphy. Together, they emigrated to the U.S. in September 1975, first to Alabama, then to New Jersey. Pat was employed until retirement as a legal secretary in various law firms in New York City, primarily Milbank Tweed, Kronish Lieb and Cooley LLP.

Pat’s main interest was travel, and she traveled with her husband throughout the United States, to the Caribbean and Mexico, to several Western Europe countries, and to several countries in Asia, especially to Malaysia where she reconnected with her family. She also liked cooking and gardening.

Pat is survived after 51 years of marriage by her husband, Joe, and by several Malaysian or Singaporean relatives including her sister, Seok Tee Oon, 3 nephews, 6 nieces, 6 grandnephews, 2 grandnieces, and 1 great grandniece. She will be greatly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers or trees, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00pm-4:00pm, at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. All other services will be private.
