James Osborn

James Osborn, 92, of Butler, NJ passed away peacefully onWednesday, February 28. Born at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, andraised in Hackensack, Jim was the son of Noah and Genette (Wonneberg)Osborn. He is predeceased by three siblings, a brother, Eugene (Buddy)Osborn, and two sisters, Muriel Demarest and Adele Gleason.Immediately following graduation from Hackensack High School inJune of 1944, Jim enlisted in the Army and was a decorated WWII Battleof the Bulge survivor, having been wounded in combat. After months spentrecovering in hospitals in Paris and stateside, James returned home andrecovered from his wounds, as the war came to an end. Afterward, hegraduated from business college in NYC, and became a master machinist,working for the Ford Motor Company, Curtis Wright Engineering, and formany years, Westinghouse, in Bloomfield, NJ, until it closed. Afterward hewent to work for Bell Environmental, traveling throughout northern NJ andNYC as a technician. He retired in 2002.In 1954, James married his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice (Romain)of Bloomingdale, NJ. Together, they raised four children at their home inButler: Ned Osborn (Pennsylvania), Laura Edcius and her husband, Don(Pennsylvania), Carole Osborn and partner Kim Gilbert (Connecticut), andArlene Romaine and her husband Ron (Ridgefield, NJ.) Jim had fourbeloved grandchildren, Philip Edcius (wife, Jeannie), Brittany Koenig(husband, Jason), Matthew Sorce (wife, Lauren), and Kimberly Sorce. Hehad one great-grandson, Adam Edcius. James was also dearly loved byhis many nieces and nephews.Jim was a gifted craftsman, who spent many hours enjoyingwoodworking and metal casting. He designed many unique and beautifulgifts for relatives and friends throughout the years. Following the death ofhis wife, Jim was blessed with the companionship and love of his secondlife-partner, Thelma Marshall (of Oakland,) with whom he spent hisremaining years at his home, in Butler.James was a proud resident of Butler, having lived there continuallyfor 53 years. He was a proud Butler Bulldog fan, who was often seen at fallfootball games throughout the 70s and 80s. He was a proud supporter ofthe Butler High School Marching Band as well, with all of his daughtersinvolved as trumpet players. He was a member of the Butler VFW, theAmerican Legion, and the Butler XYZ Seniors Club. He was a lover of allvariety of animals and an avid supporter of many endangered species,most especially, tigers.
