James Roche

d. December 28, 2021

James Roche, 83, of Bloomingdale, NJ passed away on December 28, after a month long hospital stay and courageous battle with many health problems. Jim was born to Ruth and James Roche in Jersey City, NJ. He attended Holy Family High School in Union City, NJ and St. Francis College where he played basketball on full scholarship. He worked as a proud union electrician for 51 years as a member of IBEW Local 102, where he was an Executive Board member and Recording Secretary for a number of years. In 1957, he married Marie Happel and they were happily married for 64 years. In 1958 they had their first son James and in 1961 they had their second son Mark. In 1962, they moved to Bloomingdale, NJ where they spent time between Damascus, Pa, Bloomingdale, NJ, and their place in St. Martin. Big Jim had a larger than life personality that matched his 65" frame. He loved the NY Giants and all things football, especially his yearly bet against the NY Jets. He was a season's ticket holder for many years and became an armchair quarterback after that. Jim had a knack for house design and renovations. Given a pad and a pencil he could easily sketch out a new kitchen complete with measurements in no time. He was a handyman for sure. Jim was also a major "foodie" and had very strong opinions on what he considered edible. We all tried very hard to please his palate and we were sometimes successful. He loved a good restaurant and conversation about good food. Along with good food, Jim enjoyed a healthy debate with family and friends whenever he found a worthy opponent. These are just a few of the things we will miss now that he has rejoined the true love of his life, Marie, who passed away in March of this year. Jim is also predeceased by his parents Ruth and James and sister Patricia Ibach, son Jim, daughter-in-law Linda, and grandson James. He is survived by his son Mark and his wife Denise Roche, and granddaughters Annmarie Roche, and Megan and Mallory Roche, and great granddaughter Brooke Lynn. A friends and family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to "Friends of Dennis", PO Box 143, Butler, NJ 07405. A group that raises money for local charities and helps feed those in need in the Tri-Boro Community. .
