John A. Talbot, Jr.

John A. Talbot, Jr., age 86, of Kinnelon entered into eternal peace, Monday, November 20, 2006 at Chilton Memorial Hospital, Pompton Plains. Mr. Talbot was born March 30, 1920 in New York, NY, the son of the late John A. and the late Priscilla (Peabody) Talbot. He was the president of Smoke Rise Company Kinnelon, NJ. Together with his father, the late J. Alden Talbot, he founded Smoke Rise as one of the first private, gated communities in the United States. He served as President of the Smoke Rise Company for over forty years. He was a former trustee of the Smoke Rise Club and served as Chairman of the Membership Committee. He owned and operated Smoke Rise Farms, home of champion show horses, and was a trustee of the Smoke Rise Riding Club. He graduated from Yale University and was a lifelong member of the Yale Club of New York. During the Second World War, he served under Nelson Rockefeller in the State Department and developed the Leesburg Airport in Northern Virginia. Following the War, he was a prominent member of New York and Palm Beach cafe society and founded the Bachelors Club of America. In the late 1950's, he collaborated with his good friend, Tom Carvel, to establish a network of Carvel ice cream stores in Southern Florida. Devoted husband of the late Patricia (nee Potter). Beloved father of Edwin H. Jessup and wife Laura, John A. Talbot III and wife Elise, and Henry A. Talbot and wife Alena. Cherished grandfather of Todd and Brian Jessup, John A. Talbot IV, Craig and Corey Jordan, and Alexander A. Talbot. Calling hours will be Monday, November 27, 2006, from 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Our Lady Of Magnificat RC Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ. Entombment will be in Our Lady Of Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon also on Tuesday.
