John Anthony Lust

John Anthony Lust, age 94, of Butler peacefully passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 after a brief illness. Mr. Lust was born February 4, 1912 in Cuba, the son of the late Leo and Anna Lust. He married Jane Ahrens on December 28, 1963. He honorably served in the United States Navy. He was the owner of the Excelsior Lumber Company and was a parishioner of St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Butler, NJ.Mr. Lust trained on the rigid airship USS Los Angeles and was a crewman aboard the USS Akron stationed in Lakehurst, NJ. Mr. Lust was the last remaining crewman of the USS Akron and was devoted to the preservation of the heritage of the Naval Airships.He was a member of the U.S. Power Squadron, the Navy League, the Lighter Than Air Society and a life member of the Naval Aviation Museum. He was a charter member of the Naval Airship Association, and a charter member of the Lakehurst Historical Society. He owned and operated the Excelsior Lumber Company in Butler and was a member of the NJ Lumberman's Association, a member of the Bartholdi Hose Fire Company, the Kiwanis Club, and the Boonton Elks.Surviving are his devoted wife, Jane Lust, and his seven sisters: Leona Murray of Hardyston, NJ; Frances Mc Fadyen of Butler, NJ; Anita Boyd of Oakland, CA; Louise Walinsky of Falls Church, VA; Gloria Grannis of Joliet, IL; Lauren Proctor of Freehold, NJ and Helen Ebers of Butler, NJ. He was a cherished uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be Monday, January 1, 2007, from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. Friends and family may arrive at 10am on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the funeral home, thence to St. Anthony RC Church, 65 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler NJ where a Mass will be celebrated at 11am. A private burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler, NJ.Memorials may be made to the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society, P.O. Box 328, Lakehurst, N. J., 08733.
