Joseph A. Gagliardi, 89, passed away peacefully in his home in Kinnelon, New Jersey surrounded by family the morning of April 28, 2020. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Korean War. Following the war, he met and married Sadie Pizzuto. They lived in Fayson Lakes, and later moved to the Borough of Kinnelon, where they raised their family.His professional life was spent at The Daily News in New York City, first as a mechanic then foreman, and later as the Superintendent of their four garages, where they housed their newspaper trucks. He eventually retired in 1990 from The Daily News as the Corporate Director of Purchasing. From a young age, Joe was an ambitious and hardworking individual, and he continued to embody these qualities his entire life while building a family. For this he will be cherished, remembered and very missed. Joe loved spending time with his family, attending his grandchildrens sporting events, and wintering in Jupiter; he was known by his many friends for swimming his twenty-five laps before heading to the hot tub after socializing and reading a good book poolside.Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sadie, his twin daughters, Donna Gnad and Maria Doherty and her husband Harold, his grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin, Brian and Julia, his siblings, Theresa and Antoinette, and his many nieces, nephews and long-time friends. He is predeceased by his son, Anthony Joseph, and his siblings Margaret and John.A memorial mass celebrating Joes life will be held at a later date due to the coronavirus at both St. Anthony of Padua in Butler, New Jersey and St. Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta, Florida.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Anthony of Padua, Butler, New Jersey or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
