Joseph Russo, age 96, of Butler, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019. Mr. Russo was born in Newark, NJ, the son of the late James and the late Vera (Engargiola) Russo. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony RC Church in Butler. Joseph was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 on the USS Frost DE144, a ship that earned 7 battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation in recognition of sinking German U-Boats. During his 40-year career, Joseph was a Draftsman with expertise in designing piping and electrical work for Navy ships, telephone company equipment, process engineering fuel plants, and nuclear plants. He was a huge fan of old movies, and the actors and actresses of the 40s and 50s genre, and saw every movie made at least 100 times over the years. Joseph is predeceased by his wife Antoinette in 2013. Surviving are his daughters Gail Russo; Sharon Conti and husband Joe, and JoAnn Donatone and husband Nick, and four cherished grandchildren Marissa Drobish and husband Chris; Stephanie Iskra and husband Brandon; Andrew and Daniel Conti. Viewing hours will be held on Friday, December 27, from 10:30am-Noon, at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. The funeral will be held at 1:00pm at St. Anthony RC Church, Butler, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
