Joseph Raymond Wickham, 92, of Pompton Plains, passed into his eternal reward on June 4, 2022. Born in Paterson, Joe was the son of Albert and Edith (Dilzer). He graduated Butler High School in 1948. Joe was married to Theresa (DeKryger) for 68 years until Terry passed away in 2020. Joe grew up in Butler, NJ, lived in Paterson for a short time after his marriage, and in 1956, Joe and Terry moved into the house they built in Kinnelon, where they raised their six children. They moved to Cedar Crest in 2007. Joe was a chemical engineer for Drew Chemical in Boonton; he also worked for Superior Electronics in Clifton, and Electro-Scan in Garfield, before starting his own business, Wickham Vending, retiring in 2000. Joe served in the NJ National Guard, 50th Armor Division, and the US Army Reserve, where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an active member of his parish, Our Lady of the Magnificat in Kinnelon, where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a Lector. He was a 3rd Degree Life Member of St. Anthonys Knights of Columbus Council #943 and a 4th Degree member of the Franciscan Friar Assembly. One of his passions was protecting the unborn, serving as Right to Life Chairman and the Ultrasound Initiative Program, placing ultrasound machines in crisis pregnancy centers. Always concerned about the welfare of others, after retiring Joe volunteered at Catholic Charities in the Paterson Diocese. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed reading. He enjoyed traveling and did many cruises and riverboat cruises when Terry was alive. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. At Cedar Crest, he was volunteer bartender for happy hour and was an active member of the Catholic community. Joe is survived by his children Joseph D. and his wife Debbie, of Oak Ridge, Regina Maloney and her husband Peter of Virginia, Paul and his wife Cyndi of Oregon, Tom and his wife Cheryl of Vernon, and Eileen Galley of Montville. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Albert of San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Theresa, daughter Patricia, son-in-law Ken Galley, his sisters Hilda Haddad, Laura Brady and her husband Frank, and his brother Leo Wickham and his wife Audrey. Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ. A Mass for Joseph R. and Theresa Wickham will be offered, Friday, June 10, 2022, 10 AM, also at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church. Interment immediately following mass at the cemetery.
