Karen B Newton

Karen B. Newton, 63, died Tuesday, February 12th at the Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ. There will be a memorial mass held at Saint Anthonys Church located at 65 Bartholdi Avenue in Butler, NJ on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 10:00am. Karen was born October 27, 1955 to Frank and Marie Newton (both deceased). She is survived by her son John, daughter Maggie, and two, soon to be three, beautiful grandchildren. She is also survived by her 6 siblings; Paula Lavorgna of Oak Ridge, NJ, Kate Elliott of Seven Lakes, NC, Frank (her twin brother) of Sparta, NJ, John of Hamburg, NJ, Kevin of Rockaway, NJ and Patrick of Raleigh, NC. For the past several years, Karen was a resident of the Butler Senior Community Apartments where she was a vibrant presence and a friend to many of the residents. Karen always took pleasure in life coming full circle as her father (Frank) was an original Board Member and played a key role in the construction of the Senior Apartments on Ace Road. After attending school at Saint Anthonys School in Butler, NJ and DePaul High School in Wayne, NJ, Karen went on to get her Nursing Degree from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Bloomfield, NJ. As a Registered Nurse, Karen was proud to follow in the footsteps of her mother (Marie) and was always passionate about caring for others. Karen was always working to support our troops. Karens father, uncles, brother, and son all served in various branches of the military, which she honored and admired. Karens work towards supporting veterans led her to becoming a charter member and one of the first female members of the Butler Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2018. In lieu of flowers, Karens family has requested donations be made in her name to the VFW Post 8096 Butler, NJ, the VA New Jersey Health Care System East Orange Campus, or to the American Lyme Disease Foundation.
