MABEL E. ROUGHGARDEN SINNEMAMOTHER OF FRANCISCAN PRIESTMabel E Roughgarden Sinnema, age 104 years, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Hawthorne, passed away on April 29th ,2013. Mother of Franciscan Priest, Mabel is the youngest of eight children, born to Crine Roughgarden and Elizabeth MacElhattan. They had four boys: Arthur wed Tillie Cooper, Frank wed Marie Shepo, Leo wed Ivy Bereford, and Fred wed Anna Mae Norton. There were two young girls that died as babies and one 5 year old , Lottie, who was struck by lightning at the Warren Point School. Mabel had several nephews and nieces. She was married to James E. Sinnema, owner of the Pioneer Market in Hawthorne for 48 years. They had one son, James, who is now a Franciscan: Father Paul G Sinnema, OFM. Mabel attended Hackensack High School. Her first job was at Woolworth's in Paterson where she became Assistant Cashier. When Jim bought out his partner at the Pioneer Market, Mabel joined him at the store: waited on customers, delivered some home orders and did the bookkeeping and finances for 10 years before they retired in 1972. Viewing hours will be Friday, May 3, 2013 between 9:00am-10:30 AM at The Morrison Funeral Home,86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. The funeral will be Friday 11:00 AM at St. Anthony RC Church, Butler, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
