Margaret Walek, passed away peacefully at the Manors in Hobe Sound, Florida, aged 102 years. Born Margaret Maher, she was raised by her beloved mother Joanna with her sister Mary (May) in Butler, NJ. She was happily married to John Paul Walek for 71 years and they had 12 children. Margaret was predeceased by her husband John and children Ann and Richard and son-in-law, George Logan. She is survived by her other children and their spouses, Theresa and William Henry, John P. (Jack) and Barbara Walek, Margaret (Peggy) and Richard Weiner, Joanne Logan, Susan and Parker Rhinesmith, Mary and Chuck Niessen, Kathleen and Richard Shapiro, Michael Walek and Todd Bezold, Daniel and Terilee Walek,Patricia and Bruce Coleman and Camille Walek. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Margaret was a devout Catholic, with a warm sense of humor and a welcoming smile for everyone she met. She and John lived in Butler until they retired to Hobe Sound in 1980. They continued to live an active life in Florida, entertaining a constant stream of visiting family and friends, going to the beach daily, and staying active at St. Christopher Catholic Church. With family spread across the continent, Margaret faithfully stayed in touch, visiting and writing long, engaging letters to 4 generations of family and many friends. Even after John's death in 2004, Margaret continued to inspire all with her positive attitude, warmth and humor. She resided in the Manors of Hobe Sound for 11 years, staying involved with friends and welcoming family visitors. She especially loved days when they would take her to the beach to sit near the ocean. The family is holding a service to celebrate Margaret's life on February 26, 2015, at 10:00am, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ. A wake is also planned for Wednesday February 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Morrisons Funeral Home, Butler NJ.
