Margaret Marion Self

December 22, 1926 — April 29, 2020

Margaret Self, 93, of Butler, New Jersey passed away peacefully with her daughter, Carolyn, by her side on April 29, 2020 at home. Born December 22, 1926, in McGregor, North Dakota, she was predeceased by her husband Clarence, and son Gary Patrick. Margaret was the second of nine children in her family and married the love of her life, Clarence they were married for 71 years. She followed Clarence to San Diego, California before he went off to war and moved around the country with Clarence when he worked for UPS after the war. Margaret was a driven woman who raised her children while earning her GED and working in every city she lived. In Maryland she worked for BlueCross Blue shield assessing the difficult cases that would most times fall through the cracks of the system. Between all her positions Margaret found the time to help her daughter, Carolyn, when her grandchildren were born. Upon settling in Chicago, Margarets love of children landed her a position as a Nanny which she was employed by the same family for 19 years. In 2006 Margaret and Clarence moved back to Butler to retire and during this retirement Margaret helped take care of her great grandchildren. But Margaret is most known for her sewing. Margaret learned to sew in the 4-H as a young girl and it became a lifelong passion. She challenged herself by using designer patterns with couture techniques. She loved sewing for family and friends. This passion extended into her taking up quilting. Margaret attended the AQS Paducah Quilting Show for 25 years, where she took many workshops as possible. Then she discovered the American Girl Doll and began creating beautiful clothes for the dolls. Margaret loved setting up her table display and talking to everyone who came to purchase or admire her doll dresses at craft shows she attended on weekends. Her love of sewing was a joy and a talent she and her daughter shared whenever they were together, and especially after moving back to New Jersey. However, Margarets love of her family and helping people in need was Margarets passion. Margaret is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Carroll) Campbell of Butler, New Jersey, grandsons Tim (Pam) Campbell of Bloomingdale, New Jersey, Dan (Meghan) Campbell of Bangor, Pennsylvania, and Chris (Jess) Campbell of Bloomingdale, New Jersey and great-grandchildren Ashley, Sydney, Ivy, Seaghan, Amber, Alexzander. Once the social distancing restrictions, due to the Covid-19 virus, are lifted a memorial service will be held celebrating her life.
