Mary DiLorenzo was born on May 13, 1926 in the North Bronx, the first of three daughters to Rose and Simone Stefano. It was a difficult birth. The midwife told Marys parents that Mary would probably not survive. Nobody told Mary though, and she not only survived, but thrived. Mary lived and worked in the Bronx until 1966 when the family moved to New Jersey. During that time, Mary married and had three sons. Those three boys became, and remained, the main focus of her life, right until the very end. The marriage didnt work out and Mary had to deal with being a single mother during a time when few resources were available to women in her situation. Due in large part to a loving extended family, she was able to work, assured her boys would be well taken care of. Mary worked for Otis Elevator for many years, and after moving to New Jersey she worked for Houbigant, from whom she retired. After retirement she moved to Orange County, New York. Virginia Beach, back to Orange County, and finally Sparta New Jersey. Mary was a talented artist, but growing up during the Depression, and later World War 2, she had very little opportunity to pursue her art, but she never lost her creativity. Whether it was helping with her sons school projects, or making 4th of July Parade costumes for her nieces, she always found a way to come through. Despite debilitating pain the last couple of years Mary persevered with the same strength and dignity she showed at birth. Even at the end she maintained her sense of humor. She was an inspiration to many, and all who knew her will miss her greatly. The family is thankful that she was able to pass away peacefully. Mary is survived by her sons Dennis and Ron, her daughter-in-law Ronnie, grandsons Michael, James, Joey, and Danny, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss her. .
