Maureen Herland

Maureen was born in Paterson and raised in Nutley, NJ, with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She married her best friend’s brother, Arent Herland in 1950. Together, Maureen and Arent raised three children in Butler, NJ.

Maureen attended Jersey City Medical Center and became an LPN. She nursed at Chilton Hospital and Breyburn Nursing Home while raising her family. In 1975 Maureen and Arent moved to New Port Richey, Florida, where she continued her nursing career at the New Port Richey Hospital. Maureen enjoyed for many years, boating, fishing, collecting shells, swimming, biking, walking, she had an avid interest in nature, and crafts.

Maureen is survived by and will be greatly missed by her three children, Virginia Cook, Barbara Barajas, and Scott Herland, her two sons-in-law, Gordon Cook and Eduardo Barajas, and three grandchildren along with their families. Jamie and Jeremy Dearolf, Jordyn and Jacen; Chris and Marissa Heitshusen/Cook, Charlotte, Weston, and a beautiful little boy to be born in March; Meggan and Michael Arias, Miles and Lyla; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Reed Hart. As well as many wonderful nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.

At almost 93 years of age, Maureen’s passion in life was to stay healthy, keep moving, enjoy every day, love hardily family and friends, and be kind to everyone.

Services with family and friends to be held at a later date will be announced.
