May Hopper, age 85, of Butler, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Mrs. Hopper was born in Hamburg, NJ the daughter of the late Peter and the late Genevieve (Scanlan) Draney, but moved to Plattsburg, New York where she attended St. John's Academy Elementary School and graduated from Plattsburg High School and Plattsburg Business Institute. She worked for Diamond Match Company and the Municipal Light Company, both of Plattsburg, and was a secretary at the First National Bank of Pompton Lakes before she became a Community News Coordinator, a free lance writer and editorial secretary with the Suburban Trends. May would also work at the Independent Weekly Newspaper as a town columnist for Life and Leisure, the articles were known as "Around the Maypole". She was parishioner and member of the Rosary Society at St. Anthony's RC Church in Butler, NJ. She was a Charter Member of the Youth Employment Service (Yes), member of the Bloomingdale Golden Agers Club, director of the Youth Involvement Program (Bloomingdale Drug Abuse), trustee for the New Bloomingdale Library, member and secretary for Tri Boro Chamber of Commerce, received a Communications Award from the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 8096, and was a member of the Mayor's Advisory Committee, Citizen Representative to the Bicentennial Committee, and Den mother for Pack 86. She volunteered at the Donald School for Eyesight and was instrumental in helping them get a Good Housekeeping Award. She is survived by her two beloved sons, Steven and Bob of Vernon, NJ, and five cherished grandchildren. May was pre deceased by her devoted husband Harry, and loving siblings, Betty McDonah and Bill Draney. Viewing hours will be Thursday, June 24th, 2010 from 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. A funeral will be held Friday 11:00am at St. Anthony RC Church, Butler, NJ. The final disposition will be held in private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Anthony RC Church Food Pantry, 65 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, NJ 07405 in her memory.
