Michael Dorota, a longtime resident of Smoke Rise, New Jersey was beckoned by his Creator and slipped quietly to his eternal rest on November 24, 2015. He was the first born to Nadia (ne Burdan) and Ivan Dorota in Mohyliv Podilsky on March 31, 1921 during the war between Ukraine and Soviet Russia. Thanks to the kindheartedness of a military official and good luck, the young family left Soviet Ukraine in 1924 and returned to Western Ukraine, ultimately settling in Zhovkva. Michael Dorota was a man of an exceptional intellectual ability, curiosity and drive. He was completely self-reliant, living by his instincts, principles and extraordinary linguistic abilities during the tumultuous years of WWII. He fled Lviv for Vienna where he completed his degree in mechanical engineering at Die Technische Hochschule in Vienna, Austria in December 1945. Michael Dorota found ways to survive and helped innumerable people avoid peril, particularly entrapment by Soviet or Nazi agents. In 1949, Mr. Dorota immigrated to the United States, his safe haven and guarantor of opportunity. Several years later, he started a business in Passaic, NJ manufacturing cathode ray tubes for the developing television industry. The company, Apex Electronics Inc., flourished for some 30 years and provided employment to many, particularly numerous immigrants. Mr. Dorota was proud of his legendary service and his legion of loyal customers who knew he was there for them. Mr. Dorota is survived by his beloved sister, Elizabeth (Liza) Kazymyra (Canada) and his brother, Roman Dorota (Ukraine) and wife Anizia. He is also survived by his dear children, Lisa Tebbe and her husband Horst, sons Peter and Michael "Mr. Mike" Dorota, five cherished grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and Ukraine. Michael Dorota was predeceased by his former wife, Vera Dorota in 2013. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Igor Jaworowsky and wife Sue. The family is most grateful for the fastidious care provided by his son, "Mr. Mike" which enabled their father to remain at home.
