Mildred (Millie) C. Bird, of Bloomingdale, formerly of Greenwood Lake , NY , passed away on November 26,2008. Viewing will be on Sunday, November 30, 2008, and Monday, December 1st, 2008, at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, N. J., from 2-4 &7-9pm. The Funeral service will be held at the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church , Main St. Bloomingdale , NJ, at 10am, on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery , Butler , NJ. Millie was born in Mt. Marion , N. Y., daughter of the late Edward and Kunigunde (Gohs) Willner. After leaving employment in N.Y.C, Millie worked for the Borough of Bloomingdale for twenty-nine years. Starting as Registrar of Vital Statistics and Secretary to the Board of Health out of her home in 1963, in 1966 she became the first Bloomingdale Borough Clerk to have an office outside of a home, in the old municipal building. In 1968, Millie was one of 101 Municipal Clerks from throughout the United States and Canada who volunteered to participate in a pilot, 3-yr. college level course specifically for Municipal Clerks, which was held in the summer as an extension course at Syracuse University . This pilot became a reality and resulted in the Certified Municipal Clerks title (CMC) through the auspices of the International Municipal Clerks Assn. She was also at one time the borough administrator for Bloomingdale.In addition to serving as President of the Municipal Clerks Assn. of the State of New Jersey , Millie served as President of the Passaic County Clerks Assn., the Bloomingdale Golden Age Club and Butler Tri-Boro Rotary, where she was awarded the Rotary's prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award. Upon serving as Borough Clerk twenty-five years and becoming State President, two Congressional tributes were placed in the records of the 102nd Congress, by Congresswoman Marge Roukema and Congressman Robert Roe. The Passaic County Bd. of Chosen Freeholders named a Mildred C. Bird day, in recognition of her work for the citizens of the County. Millie served as a United Way Chairperson, and was a member of the Bloomingdale United Methodist since 1958, where she was Secretary to the Official Board in the early years, and for a number of years served as Treasurer of the Esther Circle . Millie was a member of the Bloomingdale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Bloomingdale Golden Age Club, the Wanaque Seniors, and held Life Memberships in the State Municipal Clerks Assn., Bloomingdale VFW memorial Post 9458 Ladies auk., American Legion Ladies Aux., VFW National Home for Children and the Tri-Boro Chamber of Commerce. During the years 2005-2007, she served as President of the Bloomingdale United Methodist Women. Surviving Mildred are her two beloved sons, Alan of Bloomingdale and Edward and wife Jane of Berlin, Conn., and grandsons Michael,Wethersfield,Conn. and Jeffrey, Berlin,Conn. . Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in 1991, sister Cecelia in 2002 and brother Clarence in 1975. Those wishing to may make memorial contributions to the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, Bloomingdale Vol. Fire Dept., Tri-Boro First Aid Squad or Butler Tri-Boro Rotary.
