Moya Shannon, age 88,of Marlboro, NJ formerly of Kinnelon, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Moya was born in the Apshawa section of West Milford, NJ, the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Amy Smith.Moya lived most of her life in Kinnelon, N.J. from 1923 to 1997. She moved to Marlboro, N.J. in 1997 to be closer to her daughter, Amy Colen and her family. She lived in the Greenbriar community, Marlboro, until her passing.The greatest joys of her life were her faith, family and friends. Moya was active in the Rosary Altar Society at both Our Lady of the Magnificat, Kinnelon, N.J. and St. Gabriel's, Marlboro. N.J. She was very involved in Girl Scouting in Kinnelon for many years, managing the distribution of the Girl Scout cookie and nut sales for all of Kinnelon Boro. Moya and some very special friends handcrafted a memorial quilt of Kinnelon's historical places. This quilt was copied onto an afghan which was mass produced and sold as a fundraiser during a special anniversary for Kinnelon Boro.Moya volunteered for many years at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, N.J. Moya took great pride in decorating her home and had a particular interest in antiques and handmade crafts. She most enjoyed spending time with her 4 children and their spouses, her 13 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, as well as her many close friends from Kinnelon and Marlboro. She was her family's most precious treasure. Although she will be greatly missed, she will be remembered with lots of love and joy. She is survived by her beloved children Eileen Haynes of Olney, MD, David Shannon of Lansdale, PA, Patricia Mensonides of Seaford, DE and Amy Colen of Morganville, NJ and her 13 cherished grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Moya is predeceased by her devoted husband Howard. Viewing hours will be 9:30-11:30 am at Our Lady of Magnificat RC Church on Friday, March 23, 2011, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 am also at the Church. Entombment immediately following at Our Lady of Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Priests for Life, P.O. Box 141172, Staten Island, New York 10314 or St. Gabriel's RC Church, 100N. Main Street Marlboro, NJ 07746 in her memory.
