Polly was born and raised in Auburn, MA. She graduated from Tufts University with a degree in history in 1953. She met Harry Barker at a church function in Auburn and they were married on June 20, 1953. In the early years of their marriage they moved around living in Rochester, NY; Newtown, CT; and Salisbury, CT before settling in West Milford, NJ in 1968. Born with a twinkle in her eye, Polly was a character and a great tease. She would smile her half smile; her eye would twinkle and shed make some sort of wisecrack! She was a creative person, dabbling in many media, but her passion was wood carving. She carved many figures and made many wood items. Even at the time of her death, the chisels, knives and wood were still in her closet awaiting the next project!Polly taught Sunday school for years and loved working with the kids. She had fun developing activities and crafts that were unusual for the kids. She was a big kid herself; she was playful and made learning fun. The stories she would tell of her interactions with kids are precious. Polly is survived by her husband Harry, children Margaret (husband Greg), Michael (wife Pat), and Tom (wife Judy), 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
