Ralph P. Cortese

Cortese, Ralph P., 86, of Bloomingdale, NJ, formerly of Haledon, NJ, died Monday, August 15, 2016. Ralph was born in Paterson, NJ, the son of the late Thomas and Celeste (Madama) Cortese. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a proud member of the United States Marine Corps.He owned and operated the Haledon Service Center for 35 years, and was an active member of the Haledon Business Association. He will be remembered for his love and knowledge of all things automotive, always willing to offer a hand to those in need. He was also a maintenance supervisor at William Paterson University for many years.Ralph was a member of the Bear Paw Lodge in Damascus, Pennsylvania, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was known for his beautiful flower gardens, and his home grown vegetables, especially his Jersey tomatoes.He is survived by his loving children, Helen Springstead and husband Ken, Ralph Cortese and Gieniene Cortese; and five cherished grandchildren, Lindsay, Jennifer, Tarryn, Dylan and Celeste. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen, and his brother, Thomas. Viewing hours will be Thursday August 18, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered Friday 11am at St. Joseph's RC Church, West Milford, NJ. The final disposition will be private.
