Robert Norman, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and engaged citizen of Butler, NJ went home to be with the Lord February 14, 2022 at the age of 85. Originally from Milton NJ, his parents Arthur and Edna Mae moved to Kinnelon when Bob was beginning elementary school. A graduate of Butler High, he was pivotal in planning reunions for his graduation class. Bob was a lover of music, particularly brass bands. He spent some of his childhood and all his adult life playing brass instruments such the baritone, tuba and trumpet and conducting for numerous bands including the Butler High School Band, Bloomingdale Cornet Band, The Franklin Community Band, American Weldrey Band, the Brass Factory Band and filled in from time to time for the FDU Pep Band. After serving honorably in the Army in Korea in peacetime, he wandered into a job at Nabisco in Fair Lawn and worked as a food chemist helping to create Easy Cheese, known as Snack Mate at the time. Later, he worked as a Quality Assurance Specialist before retiring after 39 years later with a collection of cookie boxes, memorabilia and stories. Robert was active in the Butler Church of the Nazarene serving as choir director and youth leader for several years. In his retirement, he and his wife of 60 years Sandra (nee Morgan) were frequent cyclists along the paths and rail trails of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. He took pride in expanding and working on their "newlywed" house for 50 plus years in Butler, tooling around the yard and shoveling snow together up to last year. He spent many Saturday nights at the races at Orange County Fair Speedway and frequently enjoyed classic car shows, and tried to pass on his love of racing and cars to children Leslie, Cynthia, Timothy and Mark. He helped run paper routes as a second job for the Paterson News starting in the 60's through late 70s. As hobbies, and while blasting his extensive collection of brass band music, he created wooden crafts, mostly clocks and birdhouses, for the hobby business he ran, Bobs Clocks. If you stopped by Burger King in Butler on weekday mornings you might have seen him having a coffee with friends. He was a frequent contributor to opinion sections of local newspapers and often went to Town Council Meetings and BOE Meetings. The Norman household was often filled on holidays, birthdays and anniversaries with both Normans and Morgans families. He took what seems like thousands of pictures, printing them and stacking them around the living room and filing them into albums. His favorite subjects of course, were his grandchildren Timothy, Shannon, Nicole, Jessica, Justin, Eva and Elie, and great-granddaughter, Kendall. Bobs irreplaceable presence will be missed yet his spirit survives in fond memories of those who loved him and all the many lives he touched. Robert was predeceased by his mother and father, Edna and Arthur Norman. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters Leslie and Cynthia and sons Timothy and Mark, and seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The family will be celebrating his life together, visitors are welcome from 4 PM to 8 PM on Sunday, February 20th at the Morrison Funeral Home in Butler.
