Salvatore Scozzari, of Butler, NJ, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on May 4, 2016 at the age of 83. Sal was born in Passaic, NJ on July 23, 1932 to Joseph and Maria (nee Palumbo) Scozzari.Sal spent his childhood in Garfield and Paterson and in his teens, he met Elizabeth (Bette) Pellegrini outside a local candy shop and a few years later, they wed on December 28, 1951. Sal and Bette raised 3 children-Douglas, Debra and Derrick-in Paterson and in 1962, they moved to Butler, where he and Bette remained until 2015. Sal joined the Butler Volunteer Fire Department in 1964 and served his community for 12 years. He operated his own house painting and wallpapering business, which he did for more than 40 years and was a member of Local No. 711 and a longstanding member of the XYZ club in Butler. Post-retirement, Sal also began volunteering at the Butler Museum. He was an avid NY Mets fan, and always enjoyed all different sports, especially his grandsons' games when they were young. Sal had a great sense of humor and he will always be remembered for his hard work and passion. He was a true gentleman to those he met along the way and will be remembered for his generosity to others.Sal was pre-deceased by his father, Joseph, in 2004; his mother, Maria Scozzari, in 2001; and his brothers-in-law, Ettore De Marchi, in 1988; and Angelo Di Dolci, in 2010. Sal is survived by his loving family including his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; his sisters, Mary De Marchi and Carmelina Di Dolci, both of Wildwood Crest, NJ; his children: Douglas and his wife Barbara, of Kinnelon; Debra Morgese and her husband, Vito, of Butler; and Derrick and his wife Donna, of Butler. Sal was the proud grandfather of 7 grandsons and 3 great grandsons: Doug's sons, Michael Scozzari, his wife Meghan, and their son, Brendan; Daniel Scozzari; and Matthew Scozzari; Debi's sons, Vito Morgese and his sons, Jack and Luke; and Joseph Morgese and his wife, Allison; Derrick's sons, Kyle and David Scozzari; and two more great grandchildren arriving soon.Friends and family will gather at the Morrison Funeral Home at 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, on Friday, May 6th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. His funeral will take place on Saturday starting at the funeral home at 8 AM and moving to St. Anthony's RC Church, where Sal was a parishioner for more than 50 years, at 9 AM. Following the funeral, Sal will be interred in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Butler Museum or Butler Volunteer Fire Department.
