Steven C. Owens - son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on February 4, 2023.
Mr. Owens was born on July 29, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, to Cornelius Owens and Josephine Liccardi. At a very young age, Steven’s biological father died heroically in WWII as a paratrooper. Shortly thereafter his mother remarried to William Gunther where they resided in Brooklyn for several years before moving to Plainview, Long Island, New York. He graduated from Plainview High School. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business from the University of Maryland. Steve worked as a businessman in the technology sector during the 1960s - late 90s moving his growing family all around the U.S. In his later years, he bought a local liquor store before fully retiring in 2007.
Steve married Barbara on July 24, 1966 and in 1968 the couple moved to Rockville, MD where they birthed their first son, David. The family of three moved to Minnetonka, MN in 1973 where their first daughter, Carolyn and second son, Neil were born. In 1978 the family of five moved to Naperville, IL where they had their fourth child, Diana. In 1987, the family moved to Kinnelon, NJ where they resided for the past 35 years. They wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Florida which was a very special place for Steve and his ‘sundowners’ crew of friends.
Steve was a big conversationalist, always ready with a good joke or pun to make you laugh, he enjoyed camping, baseball, music and traveling, especially river cruising.
Through the 56 years together, Steve and Barbara found a wonderful community of close friends in the many towns they lived, where they grew their love and their family.
Steve is survived by his children David and his wife Beth Ann, Carolyn, Neil and his wife Denise, and Diana; his brother William Gunther and his wife Nancy; his twin sisters Catherine Pryzmont and Christine Hoffman and her husband John, his ten grandchildren James (25), Hannah (23), Amaia (21), Gabriella (17), Madalyn (18), Louis (15), Waverly (12), Reese (9), Emil (9) and Malcolm (2). Steve is predeceased by his wife Barbara, and his son in law, Ken Steif. He is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed.
