The Rev. Edward J. Dillon O.F.M.

The Rev. Edward J. Dillon, O.F.M., age 95, a professed Franciscan Friar 71 years, and a Catholic priest 67 years, died Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing Home, Caldwell, NJ. Father Edward, born in April 1927, spent his formative years on Long Island before entering the Holy Name (New York) Province of the Franciscan Friars. His academic achievements included a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Bonaventure University, Olean NY in 1951. Another part of Father Edwards studies for priesthood took place at St. Anthony Friary, Butler, NJ. He pursued theological studies at Holy Name College, Washington, DC, prior to priestly ordination in June 1955. In New Jersey, Father Edward served as Parochial Vicar at St. Elizabeth Church, Wyckoff, 1957-1958, Pastoral service in the Franciscan mission churches of Holy Name Province in North and South Carolina spanned five decades, interspersed with other apostolic assignments. Father Edward became a popular preacher of retreats in parishes throughout the eastern seaboard. In another apostolic activity, Father Edward volunteered to serve with the Franciscan Friars in the Holy Land, including an appointment to the Guardianate of the Basilica of the Gethsemane, Jerusalem, Israel. Father Edward retired from active ministry in 2006. More recently he resided at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing Home, Caldwell NJ. He is survived by his Franciscan confreres in Holy Name Province.
