Thelma Margaret Links, of Kinnelon, 92 years of age, passed away Thursday, October 5th , 2017, peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born in PA and moved to North Haledon, N.J. with her family while a very young child. She is the daughter of Mary and Louis Carbone. Thelma graduated from North Haledon Memorial School and Hawthorne High School. She furthered her education having graduated from Jersey City State Teachers College, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Then she went on to Jersey City Medical Center to earn a Registered Nurse Degree. Upon graduation Thelma was hired as a School Nurse at Fair Lawn Public Schools. Later she became a School Nurse at Ridgewood Public Schools. She worked in many phases of Nursing. She was a pioneer in helping to eradicate the disease of Polio having gone to Boston to be schooled on this project, when Polio was so prevalent.Thelma is survived by her adoring husband, Gene Links, to whom she was married for Sixty-four years. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Marie Cook (nee Carbone) and predeceased by her loving Brother, Louis Carbone. Thelma is survived by her loving nephew, Harold P. Cook, Ill, Esq. and his loving Wife Helen, her loving niece Alexandra Cook Levajac and her loving Husband Paul Levajac, a North Haledon Police Officer. After her Nursing Career, Thelma retired and devoted much time to her Church, Our Lady of the Magnificat in Kinnelon at the time Rev. Msgr. John R. Ryan was the Pastor and ambitiously created a school a new church and a cemetery. Thelma assisted Msgr. in all of his endeavors. She was a great asset. A mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church in Kinnelon on Monday, October 9th, 2017 at 10am followed by entombment in the church cemetery. Visiting will be held on Sunday, October 8th, 2017 in the Ryan Room from 4-7pm also at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Josephs Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, 140 Shepherd Lane, Totowa, New Jersey, 07512-2188, in her memory.
