Thomas Scovill Snyder Jr.

July 12, 1938 — February 17, 2022

Thomas Scovill Snyder Jr., age 84 of Kinnelon, NJ died peacefully at home with family on Thursday February 17th. Tom suffered from Parkinson's Disease for years along with other ailments. Despite these challenges he remained cheerful, and always had a smile for friends and family. Tom was born on July 12, 1938 in Montclair, NJ to Thomas S. and Ruth Snyder. He graduated from Montclair High School and attended Juilliard School of Music before leaving to serve in the U.S. Navy Unit Band in Washington and Yokosuka, Japan for three years. Shortly after returning from service, Tom met Christina Hedstrom of Floda, Sweden who was working as an au pair next door. It didnt take long for him to notice this beautiful Swede, fall in love and ask her to marry him, which they did in 1962. Tom and Chris would celebrate 60 years of marriage this coming July. Tom is survived by many loving friends and family including his sister Carol Woodward, his wife Christina and two daughters, Karen Snyder (Krister) and Susan Teien (Mark) and five grandchildren. Louise, Ellen and Felix Snyder and Anna and Maria Teien. Music was always a big part of Toms life. While still in his teenage years, he played the sax and drums in a talk of the town dance orchestra called The Melodiers. And after his Navy Band service he continued to play with good friends in small bands for banquets and weddings. In addition to Toms musical career, he worked in the automobile industry, in sales and management. "Honest Tom" was the most trustworthy car salesman youll ever meet. He experienced life to its fullest: traveling with Chris, playing beautiful music, tailgating with friends, flying an ultralight, skydiving, owning a racehorse, and hiking to the top of mountains. Always young at heart, he loved adventures, games, and just "being a kid", making him the most wonderful of Dads and Grandpas. Tom loved his family home on Cutlass Road. There were so many wonderful memories on the property - from parties, a wedding, fishing off the dock, and playing hockey on the pond, to just enjoying the beautiful old home and gardens. Tom leaves us with so many great memories which we will cherish forever. A service will be held on Friday, February 25th, 11 AM at St. Davids Episcopal Church in Kinnelon, NJ. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Toms name can be made to St. Davids Episcopal Church http://www.stdavidskinnelon.org/donate/ or Hospice Foundation of America in honor of those who cared for Tom https://hospicefoundation.org/Donate . .
